We’ve shipped nearly 200 ties since we launched 2 months ago. A number of our fans have sent in photos of themselves sporting their True Hero Ties. We’ve even been featured on ESPN (well, being worn by basketball coaches while on ESPN).

Homeless Veterans Dropped 12% in 2011

So often, we hear about too many government programs that aren’t working. This article in the Denver Post is a promising report on the number of homeless veterans in America. It attributes the success to programs implemented by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“Homelessness among military veterans dropped nearly 12 percent on a typical night from January 2010 to January 2011, according to the results of a national report announced today by the Departments of Veterans Affairs andUrban Development.”

A great 2011 at True Hero Ties!

We’ve had a great first year at True Hero Ties so far. While we’ve only be “live” for the past 6 weeks, the past year has been full of great experiences for the founding team. Even while all working full-time jobs in 3 different cities (Matt in Denver, Johnny in Chicago, and Ryan living out of his backpack), we managed to create a company and sell over 180 ties. The long nights (see Matt to the right), phone calls, plane tickets, and countless emails have paid off: we’ve already generated over $4500 in donations to U.S. veterans organizations.

The next year looks amazing. We’re planning a number of events across the country, working on partnerships with many more organizations, and even thinking about some new products.

We can’t thank you enough for your help and support with our endeavor to help those who have sacrificed so much for this country where we live.

Pearl Harbor: a day that would live in infamy

December 7, 1941. ”A date which will live in infamy,” said President Franklin Roosevelt.

70 years ago today, the Japanese attacked the U.S. Pacific Fleet, as it lay anchored in Pearl Harbor. The attack was devastating: 2,402 Americans killed, 1,282 wounded, and 4 of 8 battleships sunk.

The following day, the United States declared war on Japan — beginning America’s involvement in World War II.

There are only a handful of Pearl Harbor survivors still living today, but the memory continues to live on. If you see a veteran today, shake his or her hand. Their friends have given more for this country than most ever do.
